Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is the second most visited pilgrimage site in the world. It is a group of buildings dedicated to the veneration of the Virgin.
Its origin dates from the nineteenth century, specifically in 1858, when a girl who was playing in the area had a vision of the Virgin next to a rose bush at the entrance of the Grotto of Massabielle. The girl saw the Virgin 18 times, who told her that a spring will appear and the people should go in procession. It was in this way that the sanctuary became a place of pilgrimage to which 3 million pilgrims come each year.
Pau castle
